Guys and Dolls – London – November 25th 2006 (evening)
There are
already several Guys and Dolls reviews on my homepage so I'll just do a
short one this time concentrating on few people who stood out for me (either
positiv or negative.... you'll see... hehe).
Nathan
Detroit: Patrick Swayze
My last show
with Patrick as Nathan. I've become so used to him being in this show that
I'm sure it will be a bit strange next time I'll get a programme before
seeing the show and his name won't be in it anymore. I really enjoyed seeing
him on stage once again. It's so very clear he loves this show which is
fantastic. I have to say I will miss seeing him as Nathan and I really hope
I'll catch him on stage again in another show sometime in the future.
Miss
Adelaide: Samantha Janus
First of all
she looks like Michelle Pfeiffer. :)
Liked her in
the role. She looked and acted more grown up on stage than the other
performers I've seen as Miss Adelaide. Vocally she was great. All in all a
great show.
One thing I
thought was rather funny... in the scene just before "Marry the man today"
when Adelaide describes Nathan to Sarah to find out if he has taken part in
the prayer meeting: All the other performers I've seen said something like "He's
a handsome guy - muscles!" but Samantha said "He's a handsome, kinda nervous
guy!" which reminded me of the way Patrick plays his character - very active
and kind of nervous. :)
Sarah
Brown: Amy Nuttall
I do admit I
really loved Kelly Price in this role so I knew it wouldn't be easy for the
new girl to convince me of her portrayal of the character. And I'm sorry but
I have to say I wasn't impressed with Amy Nuttall's performance.
Vocally she was rather weak and her acting was too harsh in my eyes. She
made Sarah Brown look like a frustrated woman who isn't happy with her life
and that just didn't seem right.
Sky
Masterson: Norman Bowman
I remember
seeing him as Harry the Horse when the show first started. And so I was
curious to see him as Sky Masterson this time. What can I say? Wow - he was
amazing. Vocally definitely one of the best I've seen in this part. On the
acting side he appeared less cool than, for example, Adam Cooper. Norman's
Sky was more on the friendly and a little cheeky side.
I can say I
loved his performance... really well done!
Benny
Southstreet: Sebastien Torkia
Not a new guy
on stage but I have to mention him as he never fails to amaze me. Wonderful
performance! He is so extremely talented and always makes the best of every
character he plays.
General
Cartwright: Verity Bentham
A very young
looking General compared to the other women I've seen in this part. This was
the first time I've seen her in a bigger part and I really enjoyed it. She
made the character her own and looked very comfortable on stage. :)
Well, as I
said I won't review everyone this time. Every other performer did really
really well. Always a pleasure to watch these guys on stage. Thank you for
another great show and I'm looking forward to seeing Guys and Dolls again
next year. :)
